51·´˛îć»â€™s Worship Ministry WAVES WORSHIP Releases Debut Single

WAVES WORSHIP

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, WAVES WORSHIP, a worship ministry consisting of 51·´˛îć» students, staff, and alumni who perform original musical arrangements, released their debut single, “LET IT FALL,” a triumphant anthem calling for the Lord’s presence and guidance. Kolomona Ku, director of worship for WAVES WORSHIP, describes the debut release as an “invitational worship song, focusing on God's sovereignty and the call to a personal relationship with Jesus.”

The group, which currently consists of 20 to 30 members, plans to release two additional singles during the 2024–2025 academic year. Ku explains that they strategically recorded three songs already familiar to the 51·´˛îć» community, specifically designed for congregational worship. WAVES WORSHIP seeks to create a variety of music that resonates both in worship settings and personal encounters with God. With more than 70 songs in development, the group plans to release a new single every two months, beginning with “LET IT FALL.”

“Our melodies and lyrics are intentionally simple to encourage participation, and we strive for our music to be a vessel that invites people from all walks of life to worship together,” shares Ku. “WAVES WORSHIP seeks to explore what it means to live a life of worship, using music as an expression of that.”

Established in 2021, WAVES WORSHIP aims to foster musical worship, inspire a spiritual connection with God, and maintain a focus on community and spiritual growth. Co-led by Ku and associate director of worship Lily Salanty, the group’s formation was rooted in a desire to rebuild community following the COVID-19 pandemic as students returned to campus with a renewed hunger for relational depth and meaningful connections. Over the past few years, this musical movement has developed organically, drawing students, staff, and alumni into a vibrant worship community.

Originally focused on creating live worship experiences on campus, WAVES WORSHIP has evolved into a space where students can grow creativity, particularly in songwriting. The program encourages students—ranging from poets and visual artists to musicians—to come together to create a musical production that reflects their faith. The community emphasizes collaboration, with student musicians inspired to use their gifts to honor God. Though not an official 51·´˛îć» program, WAVES WORSHIP has flourished through word of mouth and active participation in campus worship services such as the Well and and leads worship at youth camps, churches, and events across California and beyond.

Ku believes that music has the power to inspire change and strengthen spiritual connections. He highlights the impact of musical worship in building community, fostering deep connections, and encouraging young adults to explore their faith while forming meaningful relationships.

“When God invites us into a relationship with Him, every moment becomes an opportunity to worship,” says Ku. “Musical worship unites us as we sing words grounded in scripture that carry meaning far beyond the present moment.”
